Simple Capsule Wardrobe

Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance. — Coco Chanel

With the start of a new year, we all seem to be craving simplicity and what a perfect time to look at creating a capsule wardrobe. It is a way to simplify what is in your closet and have versatile pieces that can be integrated from season to season. Everything will go together so you don’t have to think too much and can get dressed quickly.

Think of your capsule as your foundation and classic pieces. This is where you invest your money. When you start with a great foundation, you tend to spend less and only need a few pieces each season. It will save you money as you begin to shop with intention!

You end up with every single piece in your closet as ones you love to wear right now. This makes getting dressed and shopping so much easier and intentional. This will also free up your mental space so that you can spend time on things that really matter.

What basics do you need to build your own capsule wardrobe?

Leather Jacket – this is so versatile to dress up or wear casual with jeans. It can be worn over a dress as well. There are tons of Vegan Leather options right now. For Spring/Summer – I would replace the leather jacket with a denim jacket

Coat – A great trench in the Spring and Fall and a nice wool coat in the Winter.

Denim – Have two pairs that are simple and either flare or a straight cut that hits at the ankle. No holes or embellishments (you can add those in but they are not a staple). Pick a blue and black.

Blazer – A great black or navy blazer will uplevel any outfit from jeans and a t-shirt to a white button up and wide leg trousers. You can go high end with Veronica Beard or find other great options at JCrew. This is an investment piece that you will wear again and again.

Sweater – Pick a simple one that is either a crew neck or V-neck whichever is best for you, I love cashmere. You can pick a neutral color or this can also be a great place to add a pop of color. This can be worn with jeans, under a blazer, or even over a dress.

T-Shirt – These need to be replaced every year. You can find very good quality at JCrew and Madewell and not break the bank. If you want to splurge a bit, my favorite hands down are the ATM crew linked in the photo. Go with either crew or V-neck in a few colors to be worn alone or layered.

Button Up Shirt – A good white button up will go with everything. Adding a 2nd color in black, navy, or brown are also good. These are neutral colors..I suggest to pick 2

Statement Belt – I have this leopard belt shown from JCrew that I have worn a ton. You can take a simple outfit and make it pop. Belts are really not to be worn for function and more of a statement piece.

Accessories – Have a few statement necklaces, bracelets and earrings (not to be worn together). When you add this final piece, it shows you made an effort.

Shoes – A great loafer, white tennis shoes, and a nude heel are the basics. I rarely wear heels and found a great Sam Edelman nude loafer that I love.

So, there you have it! A simple capsule closet that can clear up your mental space as well. You will have clothes that you love, and always want to wear no matter the day or the occasion. Each season you can add a few on trend colorful pieces to embrace your unique style!

Let's step into 2023 with ease, grace, and simplicity. The new year brings hope and newness to our lives. I look forward to helping you clear the clutter, maximize your wardrobe, shine a little brighter, and feel fabulous every day!!

With Grace!
