The Power of Three

Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they notice the woman! — Coco Chanel

A client asked me the other day, what is the simplest way to uplevel an outfit and it reminded me of the rule of three. The third piece when getting dressed is the finishing touch to every outfit and will instantly give you a complete look.

You start with a top and bottom and then add a third piece. A scarf, statement jewelry, or a great pair of shoes are a few…my most favorite is adding a jacket!

Spring is all about transition dressing with fluctuating weather. A jacket is a great layering piece to get you through this season. Based on experience, we should all own a few different styles for maximum versatility.

More than likely you have jackets that have not been worn in over a year. Pull them out, dust them off and make the clothing you've been wearing on repeat feel fresh. How about a denim jacket with your joggers? A blazer with a graphic tee and jeans? Here are some of my favorites……

Denim – This is one of my favorite jackets and timeless. You can add it to a summer dress, white jeans, or your joggers. A light wash is the most versatile and great in white as well.

Blazer – Brings your outfit up several notches. You can simply add it to a graphic tee or striped tee and jeans, and it also pairs with a fun spring dress. Try one in a bright color or even gingham.

Utility – This jacket can be worn year-round and works with so many colors. I love to style it with jeans, dresses, and shorts.

Leather - A great investment piece that you can pair with a dress, a cute pair of jeans, trousers, and most everything in your closet.

Cardigan – such an easy piece to add to an outfit. Great for air-conditioned rooms with a summer outfit. I absolutely love the JCrew cardigan sweater jacket shown in black above.

Trench – This is truly a part of your outfit and not a coat. You can choose the timeless khaki or add a pop of color for a chic look.

As you head out the door this spring, take a moment to see how you can add the rule of three. You will feel more pulled together and in turn feel more fabulous as you move through your day! It has been a long winter; it is time to stand out and truly shine your light!

Let's step into April with ease, grace, and simplicity. I look forward to helping you clear the clutter, maximize your wardrobe, shine a little brighter, and feel fabulous every day!!

With Grace!
